At CJ Performance Cycles we can hand build you a custom set of wheels for road, mountain, gravel, CX, touring or any other style of riding you may enjoy. We can even rebuild a wheel around existing components (i.e building a new rim onto an existing hub).
Get in touch with one of our mechanic as we need to know a few variables (see below) before we can help you choose the right combination of parts to suit your riding style.
- What is your riding style and intended use for the wheels?
- When riding, what is the terrain likely to consist of?
- What is the combined rider and bike weight, (including any luggage you may carry)?
- What frame are the wheels being fitted too? We need to know frame width, axle diameter, freehub style?
- Will you be running rim brakes or disc brakes?
- Do you have a specific tyre in mind?
- The approximate budget you’d like to spend?
Hubs
Hubs come in several widths, with different axle diameters, disc mounting styles and the ability to accept either a straight pull or J-bend spoke. Having a chat with one of our mechanics will ensure you get the correct hub to fit your bike and brake set up.
Rims
Depending on your style of riding, your wheel rims can take a lot of punishment. We only build our custom wheels with well known brands.
We can also rebuild your existing hub with a new rim if you haveworn the breaking surface down with your road rim brakes, or those trail riders out there who have hit a tree root and put a flat spot in their wheel.
Spokes
Wheels can be laced in various different ways using a different numbers of spokes (the more spokes that are used, the more the load is spread and the stronger the wheel should be). This combination of lacing and quantity of spokes has a large influence on the strength of the wheel, its final weight, and ride quality provided by them.
