Opened by Northumbrian bred father and son, Mark & Chris Jenkins, our company’s ethos has always been about providing exceptional customer service above and beyond the bike sale. We believe customer service to be at the forefront of our business, and because of this, we strive to be the first point of call for local cyclists, whether that be for new bike advice, repairs, or anything in between.
The bike industry is ever-changing year by year, and in parallel with this, both our Cramlington and Newcastle stores are continually changing and growing to suit our customer’s needs, whilst ensuring a helpful and friendly service from start to finish.
Within each store we house a Shimano Service Centre, along with a suspension workshop in our Newcastle store. From our Cramlington store (Giant Newcastle) we also offer bike pod hire.
February 2010
CJ Performance Cycles first opened its doors in a small premises in Klondyke (High Pit) in Cramlington, Northumberland.
May 2013
Over the 3 years since opening, the business grew very quickly, which led to the decision to move to a larger shop premises, in order to open a Shimano Service Centre amongst other things. This new premises was located in the Old Rex Cinema, just doors away from where it all started.
July 2015
In 2015 we opened our second store in Newcastle. The store went through a complete refurbishment to allow us to display new brands which we had not previously stocked along with our second Shimano Service Centre.
February 2018
As with our original Cramlington store, within 3 years of opening we were moving again. Storage was a key factor for the move, due to our online sales increasing year on year, more storage was required. We moved our Newcastle store to a larger premises on Saint Mark’s Street within the famous Rington’s Tea Building. This meant more bikes could be displayed (close to 200 built and ready to ride on the shop floor) and a larger workshop for repairs, services and suspension servicing.
February 2021
In February 2021 our Cramlington store moved again to a bigger and better location with plenty of parking on Hubbway Business Centre. This meant even more bikes could be displayed and stored across two floors, along with a larger workshop. It also gave us space to offer an in store bike fitting service.
April 2023
We changed our Cramlington store yet again, but rather than moving premises, this time we had a refurbishment, in order to become a brand store for Giant bicycles. This business move involved a complete fit out which included new floors and ceilings and painting the entire shop. Now, our Cramlington store (also known as Giant Newcastle) holds only Giant, Liv and Momentum bikes, and our Newcastle store houses all of the other brands we have on offer.
